Wind 40C Rim Brake Carbon Wheelset

The Fulcrum Wind 40C Rim Brake Carbon Wheelset brings Italian engineering precision to Indian roads, pairing a clincher-compatible carbon rim with reliable rim brake performance. Designed for road riders seeking aerodynamic efficiency without disc brake complexity, this wheelset balances speed and durability for everything from Western Ghats descents to flat stretches along Mumbai's coastal routes.

Our Take

Fulcrum's Wind 40C delivers genuine aero gains without requiring a disc brake-equipped frame, making it ideal for upgrading classic road bikes still dominating Indian cycling clubs. The carbon clincher construction handles Mumbai's heat and Pune's monsoon braking demands better than many rivals, while the rim brake interface provides confident stopping power on Lonavala's technical descents. For riders committed to rim brakes but wanting carbon performance, this wheelset hits the sweet spot between speed and practicality on Indian tarmac.

Sizing for Indian Riders

This wheelset uses standard 700c diameter with clincher compatibility, fitting virtually all modern road frames with rim brake calipers. Verify your frame and fork accept the rim width and brake track specification. In Indian summer heat exceeding 35°C, carbon rim brake surfaces require proper brake pad selection and technique to avoid overheating on long descents—essential for riding around Ooty or Coorg's hill stations.

Compatibility Notes

Requires rim brake calipers (not disc brakes) and accepts standard clincher tyres with inner tubes. Use carbon-specific brake pads to preserve rim surface and maintain stopping power. Regular inspection of the brake track for wear and proper wheel truing ensures longevity on India's occasionally rough road surfaces. Store away from extreme heat when not riding to protect carbon layup integrity.

Pairs Well With

Match with high-quality carbon-specific brake pads for optimal performance, premium clincher road tyres in 25-28c widths for Indian road conditions, and ceramic bearing upgrades for reduced rolling resistance. Consider a quality floor pump with accurate pressure gauge and tyre levers designed for tight clincher beads when changing tubes after monsoon punctures.
