Ambix Clipless Pedals (one Side SPD

The Xpedo Ambix is a one-side SPD clipless pedal built for mountain and trail riding, offering the convenience of a flat platform on one face and secure SPD cleat engagement on the other. At Rs. 9,450, it suits riders in India who want the versatility of walking freely and clipping in when the trail demands it — without committing fully to a double-sided clipless setup. Cobbled Climbs is the authorised retailer for Look in India.

Use Cases

Daily training. Reliable cleat retention and bearing durability for repeat training use.

Race day. Lightweight design and clean release for competitive efforts.

Indoor training. Smooth float and compatibility with indoor trainer setups.

Our Take

For riders tackling the Western Ghats, the fire roads around Coorg, or the rocky descents near Shimla, the Ambix's one-side SPD design is genuinely practical. You get confident cleat engagement on climbs while the flat side handles hike-a-bike sections or chai stops without the awkward clatter of a pure clipless pedal. The stainless steel construction handles India's monsoon-soaked trails and red-mud roads better than aluminium alternatives at this price point.

Sizing for Indian Riders

Pedal sizing is not a concern here — the standard 9/16-inch axle thread fits virtually all crank arms. What matters is your shoe's cleat-mount pattern: the Ambix accepts 2-bolt SPD cleats only. Indian riders moving from flat pedals should start with higher-float cleats to protect knees in heat above 35°C, when joints swell slightly and biomechanics shift.

Compatibility Notes

The Xpedo Ambix is SPD-specific — it does not accept SPD-SL, Look, or Crank Brothers cleats. The 9/16-inch axle thread is compatible with all standard MTB and gravel cranks. Clean the cleat retention mechanism after muddy rides; India's laterite and clay trails pack into engagement springs quickly. Service bearings periodically to maintain smooth rotation.

Pairs Well With

Complete your drivetrain contact points with SPD-compatible mountain biking shoes, spare SPD cleats for annual replacement, a quality pedal wrench for installation, and trail-specific cycling socks that handle sweat and heat on long Ooty or Lonavala climbs.
