AR 29 X Rim Brake Wheelset

The Reynolds AR 29 X is a carbon rim brake wheelset built for road cyclists who demand aerodynamic performance without compromising on stiffness or ride quality. Designed around an all-road philosophy, these wheels suit everything from smooth tarmac to the rough chip-seal surfaces common on Indian highways and hill climbs — making them a compelling choice for serious riders across the country.

Our Take

Reynolds has long been respected for producing carbon wheels that balance aero efficiency with real-world durability, and the AR 29 X fits squarely into that tradition. For Indian road cyclists tackling the Western Ghats above Pune, the long climbs near Ooty, or weekend century rides out of Delhi and Hyderabad, these wheels offer a noticeable improvement in aerodynamic efficiency and lateral stiffness. The rim brake format remains popular among riders who prefer the simplicity and feel of traditional braking — especially on long descents where heat management matters. At Rs. 1,58,000, this is a serious investment, but one that rewards committed road cyclists looking for a performance edge.

Sizing for Indian Riders

Carbon rim brake wheelsets are largely universal in road standards, but confirm your frame and fork's rim brake caliper reach before ordering. Indian riders in warmer cities like Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai should note that carbon rim brake surfaces require approved carbon-specific brake pads — standard rubber pads can degrade braking performance significantly in 35°C+ heat and monsoon conditions.

Compatibility Notes

The AR 29 X is designed for rim brake road frames and forks. Ensure your caliper reach is compatible with the rim depth. Use only carbon-specific brake pads — never standard rubber compounds. Check cassette body compatibility with your existing drivetrain groupset before purchase. Tubeless or clincher tyre compatibility should be verified against Reynolds' official specifications.

Pairs Well With

Complete the build with a high-performance carbon road tyre, quality carbon-specific brake pads, a lightweight alloy or carbon handlebar and stem combination, and a precision road groupset. Adding a torque wrench to your toolkit is strongly recommended when working with carbon components.
