Bl Mt401 & Br Mt420 Disc Brake Set

India's riding conditions demand brakes that perform consistently — whether you're navigating heavy monsoon downpours in Pune, crawling through Chennai traffic, or scrubbing speed on a steep Western Ghats descent toward Lonavala. The Shimano BL-MT401 & BR-MT420 Disc Brake Set is a hydraulic disc brake system built for exactly these challenges, delivering confident modulation and reliable stopping power where it counts most.

Use Cases

Daily training. Reliable use across Indian training conditions — heat, humidity, and rough tarmac.

Race day. Performance-grade construction for competitive efforts.

Long rides. Built for full-day rides across Western Ghats, Sahyadri, or Nilgiri climbs.

Our Take

At Rs. 7,130, this Shimano hydraulic disc brake set offers genuine stopping confidence for Indian trail riders and committed commuters alike. The BL-MT401 lever paired with the BR-MT420 caliper gives you progressive modulation — critical when managing speed on Khandala or Coorg descents where heat build-up can punish inferior brake systems. For riders upgrading from mechanical disc or rim brakes, the improvement in wet-weather feel and control is immediately noticeable.

Sizing for Indian Riders

This is a caliper and lever set, not a pad or rotor size selection — but your frame's mount standard matters. Confirm whether your frame uses post-mount or flat-mount disc caliper mounts before ordering. Your fork and rear dropout must also be compatible with hydraulic disc standards. Shimano's lever reach adjustment suits a wide range of hand sizes, including smaller hands common among Indian riders.

Compatibility Notes

Compatible with post-mount disc brake frames and forks. Rotor diameter (140mm, 160mm, or 180mm) must match your frame and fork specifications — confirm before purchase. Use only Shimano mineral oil for bleeding; never substitute DOT fluid, as it damages seals. Bleed annually or whenever lever feel turns spongy. Compatible with Shimano-spec resin and metallic pads matched to your rotor type.

Pairs Well With

Complete your brake setup with compatible disc rotors (140mm–180mm depending on your frame spec), Shimano brake pads matched to your rotor material, a Shimano mineral oil bleed kit for annual maintenance, and a torque wrench for safe caliper installation.
