Ultegra Br-r8070 Hydraulic DISC Brake Caliper

India's roads demand braking performance that rim systems simply cannot match consistently. From sudden stops in Pune's chaotic traffic to sustained descents on the Western Ghats, the Shimano Ultegra BR-R8070 Hydraulic Disc Brake Caliper delivers precise, fade-resistant stopping power for road and hybrid bikes in conditions that genuinely test components.

Use Cases

Daily training. Reliable use across Indian training conditions — heat, humidity, and rough tarmac.

Race day. Performance-grade construction for competitive efforts.

Long rides. Built for full-day rides across Western Ghats, Sahyadri, or Nilgiri climbs.

Our Take

For riders tackling Lonavala and Khandala descents through the monsoon season, this caliper is a meaningful upgrade over mechanical alternatives. Shimano's Ultegra-tier hydraulic engineering means consistent modulation at 35°C+ and in heavy rain — the two scenarios Indian roads throw at you most. The mineral oil system resists moisture contamination better than DOT fluid alternatives, which counts for a lot when humidity stays high for months.

Sizing for Indian Riders

This is a flat-mount hydraulic disc caliper — confirm your frame and fork both accept flat-mount disc brakes before ordering. Rotor diameter compatibility (140mm or 160mm) must match your frame spec. This is a caliper-only purchase; hose, lever, and rotor are sold separately. Most modern Indian-market road and hybrid disc frames from 2019 onwards use flat-mount standards.

Compatibility Notes

The BR-R8070 is designed for Shimano Ultegra Di2 and mechanical groupsets with hydraulic disc levers. Use only Shimano mineral oil — never DOT fluid — when bleeding. Compatible with Shimano's SM-RT series rotors. Flat-mount only; not compatible with post-mount frames. Annual bleeding is recommended, especially after monsoon season when brake feel may soften.

Pairs Well With

Complete your braking setup with Shimano Ultegra-compatible disc rotors, hydraulic brake levers from the Ultegra groupset range, a Shimano mineral oil bleed kit, and resin or metal brake pads matched to your rotor surface. Disc-specific torque wrenches round out a clean install.
