Cosmic SL 40 Wheelset

The Mavic Cosmic SL 40 Wheelset is a serious road performance upgrade for riders who want both aerodynamic efficiency and real-world durability. With a 40mm rim depth, these wheels sit in the sweet spot — fast enough on flat expressways, manageable enough on the Ghats, and versatile enough for varied Indian road surfaces that can shift from smooth tarmac to broken patchy roads within kilometres.

Use Cases

Daily training. Durable rim and reliable hub bearings for repeat training use.

Race day. Aerodynamic depth and weight-optimised construction for competitive efforts.

All-rounder. Versatile depth and width for road, gravel, or all-road riding.

Our Take

For Indian riders doing everything from Pune-Mumbai expressway blasts to Lonavala or Ooty climbs, the Cosmic SL 40 makes a compelling case. The 40mm profile delivers genuine aero benefit above 30km/h without punishing you in crosswinds on exposed Ghat ridgelines. Mavic's precision hub engineering means consistent, reliable rolling — an important quality when riding in 35°C+ heat where every watt saved on friction counts.

Sizing for Indian Riders

Wheelset compatibility depends on frame axle standard (QR or thru-axle), brake type (rim or disc, Centerlock or 6-bolt), and cassette body (Shimano HG, SRAM XDR, or Campagnolo). Confirm all three before ordering. Also check your frame's maximum tyre clearance against the Cosmic SL 40's rim width — especially relevant if you ride on rougher roads around Delhi, Hyderabad, or Chennai.

Compatibility Notes

Match your frame's axle standard exactly before ordering. For disc brake versions, confirm Centerlock or 6-bolt rotor compatibility. Tubeless-ready rims require tubeless-compatible tyres, valves, and sealant — not included. Rim brake variants need the correct brake pad compound matched to the rim surface material. Follow Mavic's recommended service intervals for hub bearings.

Pairs Well With

Complete your build with high-performance road tyres sized for the Cosmic SL 40's rim width, tubeless sealant and valve kit for puncture protection on Indian roads, a quality torque wrench for safe installation, and bar tape or cockpit accessories to finish the upgrade.
