Essentia 40 Carbon Wheelset

The Look Essentia 40 Carbon Wheelset is a serious performance upgrade for riders who spend time on everything from smooth expressway tarmac to the broken surfaces and steep gradients of the Western Ghats. Carbon construction, a 40mm rim profile, and tubeless compatibility make this wheelset relevant whether you are chasing Ghat segments near Pune or putting in fast flat training loops around Hyderabad or Chennai.

Use Cases

Daily training. Durable rim and reliable hub bearings for repeat training use.

Race day. Aerodynamic depth and weight-optimised construction for competitive efforts.

All-rounder. Versatile depth and width for road, gravel, or all-road riding.

Our Take

A 40mm carbon rim sits in the sweet spot for Indian road cycling — aero enough to matter on flat stretches at speed, shallow enough to handle the crosswinds that catch riders on exposed Ghats passes or Delhi highway rides. The tubeless-ready construction pairs well with India's occasionally rough surfaces, letting you run lower pressures for compliance without pinch-flat risk. At Rs. 1,37,820 this is a premium investment, but wheels are the single upgrade most felt on every ride.

Sizing for Indian Riders

Wheelset fitment depends on three things: your frame's axle standard (QR or thru-axle with specific dimensions), brake type (rim or disc, Centerlock or 6-bolt), and cassette body (Shimano HG, SRAM XDR, or Campagnolo). India's heat can affect tyre pressures — check rim width compatibility with your chosen tyre before ordering, especially if running wider tubeless tyres for mixed-surface riding.

Compatibility Notes

Confirm axle standard, brake interface, and cassette body before ordering. Tubeless-ready rims require tubeless-compatible tyres, sealant, and valves — none are included. Rim brake versions require carbon-specific brake pads. India's monsoon season and gritty road surfaces increase bearing wear, so follow Look's recommended service intervals for hub maintenance.

Pairs Well With

Complete the setup with tubeless road or gravel tyres sized for the rim's internal width, quality tubeless sealant, a tubeless valve kit, and carbon-specific brake pads if running rim brake. A track pump with an accurate gauge is worth adding for tubeless pressure management in India's variable heat.
