Inset 7 ZS44/28.6|EC44/40 Tapered Headset

The Chris King Inset 7 ZS44/28.6|EC44/40 Tapered Headset brings the legendary American precision engineering of Chris King to your tapered-steerer build. Designed for riders who demand long-term reliability on demanding terrain — whether that is the broken tarmac of Pune's outskirts, the steep descents of Ooty, or the relentless vibration of Delhi's urban roads — this headset is built to last decades, not seasons.

Our Take

India's roads ask hard questions of your components. Potholes, monsoon water infiltration, red-clay dust from Western Ghats climbs, and heat-swelled handlebars all conspire against cheaper headsets. The Chris King Inset 7 answers every one of those challenges with a stainless bearing construction that resists contamination and smooth preload adjustment that stays consistent ride after ride. At Rs. 15,600, this is a buy-once, keep-forever upgrade that genuine enthusiasts in Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata have been asking us to stock.

Sizing for Indian Riders

The Inset 7 uses ZS44/28.6 upper and EC44/40 lower cup standards — confirm your frame's head tube specification before ordering. This is a tapered headset, meaning your fork must have a tapered steerer (1-1/8" top, 1.5" bottom). Frame sizing does not affect headset selection; head tube standard does. When in doubt, share your frame brand and model with us before purchase.

Compatibility Notes

Fits frames with ZS44 (zero-stack) upper and EC44/40 (external cup) lower head tube standards with a tapered steerer fork. Compatible with road, gravel, and touring framesets specifying these standards. Chris King recommends professional installation with correct press tools to avoid bearing damage. Clean and re-grease annually, especially after monsoon riding season, to maintain smooth steering.

Pairs Well With

Complete your front-end build with a quality tapered carbon or aluminium fork, a precision stem, and high-quality bar tape or grips suited to long-distance riding. Adding a torque wrench to your toolkit is strongly recommended when installing Chris King components.
