Oval 110/5 BCD Shimano Outer Chainring

The Absolute Black Oval 110/5 BCD Shimano Outer Chainring brings oval chainring technology to riders running Shimano 110 BCD 5-bolt cranks. Oval rings reduce dead-spot fatigue by varying mechanical advantage through the pedal stroke — a genuine advantage on long climbs like the Ghats or sustained efforts on Pune's training roads where cadence consistency matters.

Use Cases

Daily training. Durable chain construction for repeat training use.

Race day. Optimised chain for clean shifting and minimal drivetrain friction.

Replacement intervals. Replace at chain stretch to protect cassette and chainring wear.

Our Take

For riders grinding out ascents on the Western Ghats or battling Delhi's flat-but-dusty training loops, this chainring offers a real-world improvement in pedalling efficiency. The oval profile smooths power delivery without requiring any change in riding style. At Rs. 11,725 with free delivery above Rs. 2,500, it is a worthwhile drivetrain upgrade for anyone already running a compatible Shimano 5-bolt 110 BCD crank and looking to get more from every training session.

Sizing for Indian Riders

This is a chainring, not an apparel item — sizing here means choosing the correct tooth count for your terrain and fitness level. Riders tackling Ooty or Coorg climbs regularly may prefer a smaller chainring for easier gearing. Flat-route riders in Chennai or Ahmedabad can typically go larger. Confirm your crank's BCD is 110 and uses a 5-bolt pattern before ordering.

Compatibility Notes

Fits Shimano 110 BCD 5-bolt cranks. Compatible across 10, 11, and 12-speed Shimano road groupsets — confirm your specific crank model against Absolute Black's compatibility list. Chain width must match your groupset speed. Replace your chain at 0.5–0.75% wear to avoid accelerating chainring wear, especially critical during Indian monsoon riding when contamination increases rapidly.

Pairs Well With

Complete your drivetrain upgrade with a quality wet-condition chain lubricant suited to monsoon riding, a chain wear indicator tool, a compatible inner chainring if running a double setup, and a torque wrench for correct bolt installation. Browse all drivetrain accessories at Cobbled Climbs.
