Oval 96bcd Chainring

The Absolute Black Oval 96bcd Chainring is a precision-engineered mountain bike component designed to reduce fatigue and improve pedalling efficiency on technical terrain. Whether you're grinding up the Western Ghats, tackling singletrack outside Pune, or training on dusty Hyderabad trails, an oval chainring's bio-mechanical advantage makes a tangible difference on long climbs and varied surfaces.

Use Cases

Daily training. Durable chain construction for repeat training use.

Race day. Optimised chain for clean shifting and minimal drivetrain friction.

Replacement intervals. Replace at chain stretch to protect cassette and chainring wear.

Our Take

Absolute Black's oval chainring technology genuinely changes how climbs feel. By matching the chainring's shape to your leg's natural power curve, dead spots in the pedal stroke are reduced — a real benefit on sustained Indian mountain climbs where heat above 35°C already taxes your legs. For MTB riders targeting Coorg trails or the rocky descents around Lonavala, this is a worthwhile drivetrain upgrade that pays off ride after ride.

Sizing for Indian Riders

Chainring sizing here refers to tooth count, not apparel sizing. Select your tooth count based on your typical terrain — lower counts suit steep climbs like Khandala or Ooty, higher counts favour faster, flatter riding. Confirm your crank arm's BCD (bolt circle diameter) is 96mm before ordering. This chainring is designed for mountain groupsets, so verify speed compatibility (10, 11, or 12-speed) matches your existing drivetrain.

Compatibility Notes

Designed for 96 BCD mountain cranks. Confirm your groupset speed (10/11/12-speed) and chainline before fitting. Works with leading MTB groupsets — check Absolute Black's compatibility guide for your specific crank brand. Clean the chainring regularly, especially post-monsoon when mud and grit accumulate, to maintain shifting precision and extend component life.

Pairs Well With

Get the most from this chainring by pairing it with a quality MTB chain suited to your groupset speed, a wet-condition chain lubricant for monsoon riding, a chain wear checker tool to monitor drivetrain health, and a cassette matched to your terrain and groupset brand.
