Description

The Shimano SM-SH45 SPD-SL Cleat Covers are a small but genuinely useful accessory for road cyclists who walk more than they expect. Designed to slip over your SPD-SL cleats, they protect the cleat from wear on hard surfaces and make walking in road shoes far less awkward — a practical addition for café stops, petrol stations, or cobbled forecourts.

Use Cases

Daily training. Stiff sole and breathable upper for repeated training in Indian heat and humidity.

Race day. Power transfer and snug retention for competitive efforts.

Indoor training. Compatible with indoor trainer cleats for structured Zwift, TrainerRoad, or Wahoo SYSTM workouts.

Our Take

Indian road riders frequently deal with surfaces that punish exposed cleats — gritty chai stops in Pune, rough tarmac in Chennai, or post-ride walks across Hyderabad's parking lots. The SM-SH45 Cleat Covers extend cleat life meaningfully, reducing the frequency of replacements. For riders who commute partly on foot or attend group rides with café stops, these are an inexpensive way to protect a component that affects pedal engagement precision.

Sizing for Indian Riders

Cleat covers are sized to fit SPD-SL cleats, not the rider's foot — so shoe size is not a factor here. Confirm your cleats are the 3-bolt SPD-SL format before ordering. These covers fit the standard SPD-SL cleat profile used across Shimano's road shoe range, which is widely available at Cobbled Climbs.

Compatibility Notes

The SM-SH45 is designed specifically for Shimano SPD-SL cleats (3-bolt road format) — SM-SH11, SM-SH10, and SM-SH12 variants. Not compatible with 2-bolt SPD mountain or touring cleats. Covers should be rinsed after use in monsoon conditions or on sandy roads to prevent grit from damaging the cleat surface underneath.

Pairs Well With

Complete your road shoe setup with SPD-SL road pedals, a fresh set of SPD-SL replacement cleats, performance road cycling socks, and shoe covers for monsoon or early-morning winter rides in Delhi or Bengaluru. All available at Cobbled Climbs.

Before ordering, confirm your current cleats are SPD-SL format (used on road shoes with 3-bolt sole patterns). These covers are not compatible with 2-bolt SPD cleats used on mountain, touring, or commuter shoes. One size fits the standard SPD-SL cleat across Shimano's road range.
