Description

The Kool-Stop V-Type Insert Replacement Pad is a trusted upgrade for riders running Shimano-style V-brake systems. Whether you commute through Chennai's coastal humidity, tackle Lonavala's descent in a sudden monsoon shower, or ride Pune's potholed inner roads, these pads deliver consistent, predictable braking across wet and dry conditions alike.

Our Take

In India, where monsoons arrive fast and braking distances matter on steep Ghats descents or slick city tarmac, a quality brake pad is non-negotiable. Kool-Stop's dual compound formula and water grooves give genuine wet-weather bite that budget OEM pads simply cannot match. The Salmon compound in particular has earned a loyal following among Indian riders for its progressive feel and rim-friendly grip. For the price, this is one of the best maintenance investments a V-brake rider can make.

Sizing for Indian Riders

These are replacement pad inserts designed to fit standard Shimano-style V-brake pad holders — sizing here refers to compatibility rather than body fit. Indian riders should confirm their existing holder accepts cartridge-style inserts before ordering. The pads fit most 70mm V-brake holders commonly found on hybrid, touring, and commuter bicycles popular across Delhi, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad.

Compatibility Notes

These inserts fit most Shimano-style V-brake cartridge holders (holders not included). They are not compatible with caliper, cantilever, or disc brake systems. The Ceramic compound suits alloy rims; the CSS Carbide variant is designed for use on carbon rims. Avoid using rubber compounds on carbon rim surfaces. Clean rims regularly to extend pad life, especially after riding in monsoon grit.

Pairs Well With

Complete your braking setup with V-brake levers, stainless brake cables and housing, rim tape for alloy wheels, and a quality bike cleaning kit to keep your braking surface free of the grit and dust common on Indian roads.

Fitting

These are pad inserts, not apparel — fit refers to brake holder compatibility. These pads are designed to slot into Shimano-style V-brake cartridge holders. Most modern V-brake equipped hybrids, city bikes, and touring bicycles use compatible holder formats. If unsure, bring your bike to your local shop or contact Cobbled Climbs for guidance.
